Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to how Typing Musou plays, the rules, and common troubleshooting. For anything not listed, send a message via the in-game Feedback feature.

Getting Started

Q. What is Typing Musou?
A. A competitive typing battle game with a cyberpunk × samurai theme. Type the on-screen words to deal damage — drop your opponent's HP to zero before they drop yours. Free, browser-based, works on PC and tablet (a physical keyboard is recommended for serious PvP).
Q. Is it free?
A. Yes, completely free. All modes, character unlocks, and customization are obtained with the in-game currency Musou Credits (MC), earned by winning battles and clearing Dojo modes.
Q. Do I need an account?
A. No. Guest mode lets you play every feature, and your stats, rating, and ranking entries are saved on the server exactly the same way as logged-in users. Logging in with Google only adds one thing: the ability to carry your data across devices and browsers.

Game Modes

Q. What modes are available?
A. Two pillars: Dojo (solo training) and Battle (PvP). Dojo has four modes — Speed Trial, Accuracy Drill, Mock Combat, and Home Position Dojo. Battle has Random Battle and Friend Battle.
Q. What's the difference between the Dojo modes?
A. Speed Trial measures how many words you can type in the time limit. Accuracy Drill ends on a single mistake — pure accuracy training. Mock Combat lets you practice battles against the CPU. Home Position Dojo trains accurate home-row keystrokes through staged challenges.
Q. What CPU difficulties does Mock Combat have?
A. Five tiers, from Apprentice up to Shogun.
Q. Random Battle vs Friend Battle?
A. Random Battle uses Elo matchmaking with players worldwide and counts toward seasonal rankings. Friend Battle is a casual 1v1 via a shared 6-digit room code and does not affect your Elo rating.

Battle Rules

Q. What are the basic match rules?
A. HP varies by character (roughly 8,500–11,500), with a 3-minute (180s) time limit. Type words to deal damage. Drop opponent HP to zero to win, or have more HP when time runs out.
Q. How is damage calculated?
A. Damage = base × speed bonus × combo multiplier × character ATK ÷ opponent DEF. Base damage is set by word length: short (≤4 chars) 150, medium (5–8 chars) 300, long (≥9 chars) 500. Speed bonus is WPM/60 clamped to 0.5×–3.0×. Combo multiplier adds +2% per combo, capped at 2× at 50 combo.
Q. How does the combo system work?
A. Typing without mistakes builds a combo. Each combo adds +2% damage, capping at +100% (2x) at 50 combo. A single mistake resets the combo to zero.
Q. How do I gain SP (Skill Points)?
A. Every typed word gains SP — short +3, medium +5, long +8, capped at 100. Spend 25–75 SP on a Mid Ultimate, or 100 SP on a Grand Ultimate.
Q. What kinds of skill effects exist?
A. 11 effect types including damage, heal, stun, and barrier. See the character pages for details.

Characters & Customization

Q. How many characters are there?
A. Ten, across four rarity tiers (Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary), each with distinct roles and ultimates.
Q. Can I customize my profile?
A. Yes — 40+ icons and 80+ titles. Buy them from the Armory with Musou Credits (MC).
Q. How do I earn MC (Musou Credits)?
A. By winning battles and clearing Dojo modes.

Rating & Seasons

Q. How does rating work?
A. Elo rating. It moves based on Random Battle results and pairs you with similar-skilled players. Friend Battle does not affect rating.
Q. How long is a season?
A. Two months. Final standings unlock seasonal rewards.
Q. Does my rating reset between seasons?
A. Not fully — it's a soft reset that drifts a bit toward 1000. A rating floor also protects you during long absences.

Account & Data

Q. What's the difference between guest and logged-in?
A. The only difference is whether you can carry your data across devices/browsers. Stats, rating, rankings, friends, referral rewards — all behave identically for guests and logged-in users.
Q. How do I log in?
A. With your Google account. Your guest progress is carried over automatically when you sign in.
Q. How do I use my data on another device?
A. Sign in with Google. As a guest, your data only lives in that specific browser.
Q. How do I add a friend?
A. Exchange 8-character alphanumeric friend codes. Your friend list shows online status and lets you send a battle challenge in one click.

Controls & Troubleshooting

Q. Recommended environment?
A. Latest Chrome / Edge / Safari / Firefox. For real PvP, a PC with a physical keyboard is recommended.
Q. My typing isn't being registered.
A. Make sure your IME (Japanese input) is off — the game expects half-width Latin input. If a browser extension is intercepting keys, try an Incognito window to confirm.
Q. Battle matchmaking is slow.
A. At off-peak hours the matchmaking pool can be small. Try Mock Combat or Friend Battle while you wait, or come back later.
Q. Where can I report bugs or send feedback?
A. Use the in-game Feedback feature, or email us directly at [email protected].
